HBDA Holds Kokua Aikane Fundraiser

September 4 marked the day of HBDA's Kokua Aikane Fundraiser at the Ala Wai Golf Course Palladium from 6 pm - 9:45 pm. Proceeds/donations are earmarked for schools used by HBDA Chapters to hold their classes, to practice routine formations and solos, to hold Telemark Symposiums for teachers' training, and to hold free bi-monthly Review Nights for registered students. Well over 400 tickets were sold.

Excitement drummed up early when rehearsal took place at 4 pm for all the student dancers and their Formation Teams. It was an opportunity for all 10 Formation Teams to perform their dances a second time in front of an audience since last months' 51st Anniversary Ball. It was also a "secondS chance" to "improve and perfect" their previous month's performance.

Dining tables outside were beautifully decorated under the direction of Millie Chun, President of Pearlridge Chapter, who has a special knack of making the decor look ever so distinctive. Lavender tablecloths, centerpieces, and red balloons created a festive atmosphere.

District II, under the supervision of Assistant Dance Director Eugene Higa and his wife Melanie, supervised the reception, the dinner, the set up of chairs, and the cleanup. Pearl City, Mililani, and Pearlridge Chapters were the work horses. Paul Lee served as music DJ, and Jack Legal was the effervescent MC.
