CLASSIC HOLIDAY BALL

The USA DANCE, Honolulu Chapter will be having its annual Classic Holiday Ball on Friday, December 3, 2010.

Every year, USA DANCE, Honolulu Chapter, presents a ballroom performance by accomplished dancers. This year’s Classic Holiday Ball will feature Mikhail Andeev and his new partner, Olga Blinova. Mikhail (Misha) has been to Hawaii before. Some of you may remember him from his last visit. This will be the first time Misha will be performing for a Hawaii audience with his new partner, Olga.

We saw Misha earlier this year, competing in Blackpool with his new partner Olga. They made the semi-finals. Making it to the semi-finals at Blackpool is quite an accomplishment and says a lot about the quality of this couple’s dancing. They were finalists at the Emerald Ball. Those of you who have been to the Emerald Ball know that this is no easy comp either. Misha and Olga are International Ballroom (Standard) dancers and I think you will appreciate their performances which should demonstrate their strength and grace. We don’t have couples of this caliber performing in Hawaii very often. If you are a dancer and would like to be inspired by great dancers or if you just enjoy watching International Ballroom dancing, this event should not be missed. At $20 for the price of admission ($30 at the door), this is a great deal. Such a cheap price is possible only because USA Dance is a non-profit organization and is able to put on this event at our wonderful public facility, the Palladium. If this was in Japan or Hong Kong, you could expect to pay $200.00, if not more to watch the same performance.

On Saturday, the following day, Misha and Olga will be conducting a workshop on the International Waltz at the Palladium. Whether you are an absolute beginner, a social dancer, or an active competitive dancer, you can benefit from this workshop (unless maybe you’ve already won at Ohio, or Emerald, or Blackpool, or some other world-class competition). When USA Dance, Honolulu, presents these workshops of top professionals, the focus is NOT on advanced choreography and technique. The focus is on the fundamentals of dance, and how to move from one figure to the next. What dancer cannot benefit from a better understanding of the fundamentals.

If you attend the workshop, you will be in for another really nice surprise - Misha is really a nice guy. He is personable, he is humble, and he’s got a great smile, and I’m sure Olga will be fun too.
