You posted the Rotary fund raiser at Dots tonight. Anyone who didn't fly up there to dance and mingle missed a goodie! Deanie Bates of Aiea Ballroom had mentioned it earlier this week so I rambled on up there to hang with the gang.
"There is one day that is ours. Thanksgiving Day is the one day that is purely American."
It was a fund raiser for Polio and "Fun Raiser" would have been a more appropriate moniker. As usual people started showing up Hawaiian time but by 8 PM the place was 3/4ths full. A lot of faces I hadn't seen before with many great dancers gracing the floor.
LS 34 was the featured band. They have been together for 34 years and their music shows it. Non stop music during the sets and plenty of takers as far as dance. The smooth tiled floor they leave open for dance is actually as good as the dance floor. Dancers spilled over onto it and at times there were maybe 40-50 bodies moving and groovin'.

I'm sure some people who read about this gathering and passed it off as a ho hum affair. Too bad if they did. You know how sometimes you just gotta go on blind faith? Well, this was one of those times 'cause guess who showed up to give an impromptu stand up.....Rodney Villanueva!! OMG, During the second break he got up and did maybe 25-30 minutes of Killing comedy. Can you imagine over 100 people roaring and laughing so hard their faces and tummies hurt? I was wiping tears from my eyes and my throat hurt from laughing by the first 10 minutes. Hadn't laughed that much in years and I laugh quite a bit. Now I wish I had recorded him just to relive the moment. Maybe someone did and will post it on Youtube!
There were calls of hana ho at the end and the band obliged. All in all, what a blessing, what a night! The Oldies and Goodies Band Plays at Dots again tomorrow, Saturday 11/12/11 7:30-10:30 PM.
People if you are looking for a nice fun venue to spread your wings give Dots a try. Tonight I saw Dot's new event Calendar and Wasabi has been added for next week Friday 11/18/11. I wrote to Doreen to confirm.
Happy dancing,
Richard
