Wasabi @ SLA Hall Last night

For those of you that couldn't make it to the Wasabi fete last night here are the sordid details along with more sucky shots.

The slog to town wasn't bad, a bit under an hour from my digs. listened to a Basia CD and thought of dance possibilities as I cruised w/the mostly flowing traffic. Found a spot for my ride and scooted on into the Saint Louis Alumni Hall just before 7 PM. The place already had 40-50 fans which is about normal on a week night. The usual suspects were in attendance, Line Dancers, Wasabi faithful and some new faces.

"Sing, Sing, Sing" by Benny Goodman

Found my cohorts and didn't bother to sit 'cause Wasabi was on the downbeat. Just about the first on the floor. I was Jonesing to dance so badly that they could have played a Gregorian Chant and I would have been on it replete with shaved head, burnoose robe circling and chanting. Okay, that's a stretch....I wouldn't shave my head, my giri giri can be seen from orbit.....gona be bald soon enough.

Okay, for a week night 40-50 is a good crowd but by 7:30 PM it was starting to look like a flash mob. I mean, what.... did they advertise free drinks and pupus? With each song the crowd swelled. By my first visit to the lua the festival attendees had doubled to 80+ I'd guess. The floor never got sardine packed but close for a few dances. Nice! The energy was "Party Hearty." I may be mistaken but it sure looked like everyone was having a grand time, wouldn't have minded another couple of hours.

Wasabi usually plays the 2nd Thursday of each month. Next booking is 2/9/12 from 7-10 PM. Nothing on the tube can match the energy of last night. If you are feeling run down or bored maybe you should stop by for a recharge next month.

Attending "Legacy" at Dots' tonight (my usual Friday.) Legacy sounded like a tight fun band on the Youtube offering I found. Two lady singers. Sounds good to me.

Have a great dance weekend,

R
