Opinions are like noses, everyone has one. Yours is as important as anyone else's. How about sharing it with your fellow dancers? And the Information Contributors will be small, medium and large, but everyone still important. The entire island of Oahu dancers. Comments? Why not?

"Many social dancers restrict their reading habits to a small window
of what is happening in our blogosphere."

Typical flyer of the dozens we get, addressed to "undisclosed recipients." The way it has been done in printed matter for 60 years. It must do somebody some good, but not me personally and definitely not social media for blogging. But then our blogs are somewhat similar, we just publish on the Internet except the choice of tuning in, is yours So we all learn, it will take some time, we must be patient. With good social media. the hits on these blogs will go through the ceiling.

"Tiny Bubbles" by Don Ho

I know I am losing my physical abilities but not doing too bad with the help I get. I can get a better looking party blog when I get help in getting photos to make two collages of nine photos each. Together with few lines from a couple people it fleshes out very nicely. The advertisement for the coming party is nice. But the results of the party are much more interesting to the readers. The hits go through the roof.

That's what he said, “I did have a few drinks Saturday night in Waikiki. They told me I did a real sexy tango. I’m told I could’ve done even better with a partner.”

We need photos, - however if you take a good look at the photos in our social dance blogs you can see some that are more pleasing to the eye of the dancers than others. Your friends at the dance party, and with possibly a few comments. Wow! That would really send the hits up through the roof. Most of us are just ordinary people and do not yet realize that this is going to be social media. We are still in the process of defining it for ourselves. We should be patient.

"If we could all stop trying to be so happy
we could have a pretty good time."

You will be able to see that three people are better than two in a photo. Four are better than three, but 15 are not better than 14. Taking all this in, the photographer makes the decision. The photographer can choose the ones he wants to post in the party dance blog and email them. Yes, I know about 100 million photos available daily in Picasa, Photobucket, Instagram, Flicker and Facebook, so we can consider that taken care of for others. We missed all those possible in Pakistan? Tough.

"Have I Told You Lately" by Amy Hanaialii

Our blogosphere is also still in the process of alignment. Our social dance blogs must be different from each other. Fortunately we are getting some terrific reader/dancers. Getting feedback is crucial. We are slowly making contact with the neighbor islands and hope to get some feedback soon. They are pretty well tied up organization wise, but individually they can also choose whichever blog they would prefer. We must be patient. I do intend to continue the process of making my best blog independent (of me, anyway.)

American and International

As most everyone knows, the techniques used in American style and International style are not the same. American style features open work, under-arm turns, open extended lines, etc., while International style requires a close proximity of the partners at all times. Although American style smooth and international style standard are taught very differently, the styles are very similar. The most obvious difference is that international standard includes quickstep, which is not part of American smooth.

"Social dancers know that their purpose is not to get to certain place on the floor,
it's to enjoy each move to the music, along the way."

The other major difference is that int'l style permits figures in closed position only, while American style allows open positions and even solo actions. Beyond that, the main differences between the two styles are in emphasis rather than result. Compared to smooth/standard, rhythm/Latin has relatively little overlap. While each category has cha cha, rumba and a swing dance, international has samba and paso doble, while American has bolero -- another, slower rumba dance -- and mambo.

"Fly Me To The Moon" by Jimmy Borges

The rumba dances are dissimilar, even in their basic counts, most importantly the hip motion differs: in American style, one steps onto a bent leg; in international style, onto a straight leg. The International uses the concept of a "common center" which allows for a three- dimensional body action in unison that does not quite work for American style. American is more for "feel" whereas International is more for "looks."  Both have their good reasons.

"Good social dancers are not good because of their technique,
they are good because of their passion."

Everything flowing smoothly for this blog but I don't expect it to stay that way. I must get more information contributors. I get a few, now and then, that state, 'I will make this one, but I don't want to make any commitments." Fine, I am glad to get what I can. And I understand how they feel, but I must continue to look for steady information contributors. The information contributed is most appreciated by the readers, next to the results of shindig.

"Happiness always looks small while you hold it in your hands, but
let it go, and you learn at once how big and precious it is."

Photos have become very important and we understand that many do not wish to share with their fellow dancers and that should be their privilege. However photos of our fellow dancers having fun at a nice party are always interesting. Marie, Maili and Deanie have done much for the readers of these blogs. So now I must also postpone much of this because I am having camera troubles. I gave the old camera away and will be looking to buy another soon.

"Maui Waltz" by Loyal Garner

I have found it easier to pass the camera around and have dancers take photos of their favorite people. But for now the action on the blogs will slow down until l get the new camera. And there is just a chance that some people may find it nice to email a few photos to post in the blog for the special occasion. Of course, we must face the fact that feedback has never been much in our social dance environment. So we must be patient.

"Social Dancers do not believe, they can't do that. If they do,
then why are they in a studio in the first place?"

Around The Sun

Nice day and I realize that I have been on board this Space Ship Earth going through the Universe for some time. On Tuesday, September 12, I completed my 92nd trip around the Sun and I know there are not too many trips left. It is part of life for all of us, we are born and we die. It is quite a tragedy for those that die young, but I have had my time in the sun, no complaints.

Received a couple of nice photos from my niece Yvonne in California

My sisters, Bea and Eleanor, then Billy Bob,Yvonne,
Bea, Eleanor, her son Robert and his wife, Ellen.

Then today I got another present from my son Ron in California

My son Ron and wife Leigh in the middle. Daughters and sons in law
on either side. This is all very gratifying for me.

“I may disagree with what you have to say but I shall defend to the death
your right to say it." Generally attributed to Voltaire. But the truth
remains wherever and it is the same in all our blogs.

Guru's in dancing are everywhere and we should listen to them because they have very valuable opinions. However, we will make our own personal opinions based on what we learn. What we desperately need are the opinions of our readers. That is very likely a unique and different view point and that is where its value is. That is the important information needed by the reader/dancers of these blogs. That is the gold mine of information that is thirsted for by the readers. The social dance environment needs to know what the dancers want, not what the Ivory Towers tell them that they should want.

the beat in their feet and a passion for life."

Shaping up very well in West Oahu. Close in location, terrific club, good music, the best people. What could be better?

"Somewhere Over The Rainbow" by Bruddah Iz

Getting enough photos continues to be my personal problem. I gave away the camera that was giving me the most trouble and I don't know about the other. I may buy another before going to the above shindig. I will continue to carry this blog on the same basis as the others. It is traveling slow, mainly because of the other blogs that we have at present in our blogosphere. However it is showing a regular increase even with SOS.

"Social Dancers believe that you should understand the bigger part of
music and dance, not just one little part of it."

The honor of being in first place is still the all time champ, Town Dancer, with all its ups and downs, has withstood the addition of up to eleven blogs to really dilute the readership. But I did not know anything about these kind of stats and neither did anyone else. But I know now. They all still have spam bots, most coming from Russia. Many others have complained in the search engines. Internet Explorer doesn't have a clue. Foxfire and Chrome are there with plenty information, but no solutions.

"Dance is the only art of which we ourselves are the stuff of which it is made."

The stats that I have work with for the last three years have pretty well established the norms. Most of the Web sites do not have counters anymore. However I did have the stats that none of them ever got out of the single digit average per day hits. Ten average hits per day is only 300 hits per month. Any on mine with single digits average per day hits was deleted.

"Tiny Bubbles" by Don Ho

Yet even double digits per day was not good enough and I really had to beat the bushes to get them at least in the 20s in average hits per day. From there the goal is 33 average hits per day which is 1000 hits per month. Now you have communication. In my stats I only include one other outsider dance blog and they average hits in the 20s. Mind you for all blogs there are other hits besides our most valuable reader/dancers.

“There isn’t a dance that can compare to the gaiety, the timing and
cohesiveness of a group of good people. Good actions gives
strength to ourselves and inspire good actions in others."

Still On Top

Wow, this blog is still leading the rest and it is not really doing anything. Plenty of scam. spam robot hits which just goof up the stats. Meanwhile, Platinum Horseshoe seems to be blossoming very nicely with the addition of Dance Appeal Studio. We have to keep an eye on that section. They also have Wahiawa Ballroom Dance Club and Aiea Ballroom Dance Association to share with our fellow dancers.

The residents of Oahu have always known that Honolulu is the real center of this island. There is plenty of dance action and there are plenty of dancers to enjoy it. The Rail Disaster is going to cause a big problem and many are beginning to see the advantages of the living, working and having fun in the outskirts. Second City will be a fact, though being held back by the Present Rail Party. It is coming but ever so slowly. More people have to realize it, and who is going to tell them?

The Ninth Commandment:
(Exodus 20:13): You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.

A few of our fellow dancers are so religious, so good and they are so right and they couldn’t be more wrong. Some are so hypocritically religious that they get indignant with their fellow dancers for rules that they do not apply to themselves. Look around you, you know who they are. They lie and that is their M.O. (modus operandi) As Ann Landers use to say, “that is the way they get their jollies.” You want religion? OK, Let’s talk about it! The Creative Researchers And Producers have been losing ground in this century. And some are moving over to the new groups. We just have to be careful not to let them into our groups.
