The Big Bash

Yes, the Annual will be done this year too but this time in the West. On Tuesday evening the 1st of April and all for free. And for those having auto problems there will be limousine service that will pick you and take you home.

Twelve piece band, playing all the old time favorites. They will have valet parking free of charge and at the entrance, door prizes for everyone. Show with some of the best Exhibition Dancers on this Island. Free tickets for the drawing at break time, on a new Mercedes Benz automobile.

There will be two professional photographers taking pictures at no charge. And during the dance they will have available 14 cases of champagne so that everyone can wet their whistles. At break time, they will serve steak and lobster and a side dish of caviar. The music will stop at midnight. If there is anything else you would like, call them and let them know.

As regular advertising transitions from a plain old marketing buzzword to common practice, there has emerged a blurring of the line between editorial content and advertising. Watch it, too many sneaks out there. In an effort to make content that looks as little like advertising as possible, many advertisers have failed to make it clear where the content is coming from and what its intentions are.

Much of the bad goop is coming direct from the computer programming schools. And their intent is not to sell, but to trick you into something you do not want. Unfortunately many of them are employed by Microsoft and Apple. Linux is about the only one that allows the users to use only what they wish to use. You cannot ask for anything more? Well, yes, I want them to learn about GUI.

From the latest studies, but can only be understood by the rootzi tootzis, is that there are ornaments worn today that are not present in all mammalian species. Some authors have suggested that females may evaluate males largely on the quality of their movements, especially those movements that contain elements of vigor and/or skill, because these are most likely to indicate health and genetic quality. Dancing?

"For many, if they were to begin life again, would devote it to music and dance
for those are the only cheap and unpunished raptures upon earth."

We are receiving some beautiful posters from all over, informing us
in our dance world, that we don't have a monopoly on dancing.
Everybody all over this planet is having a ball just dancing.

Evidence from birds, ungulates and crustaceans demonstrates that females detect subtle variations in male motor performance during ritualized courtship displays, and base subsequent reproductive decisions upon such differences. In humans, dance is a set of intentional, rhythmic, culturally influenced, non-verbal body movements that are considered to be an important aspect of sexuality and courtship attraction; indeed, dancing often forms part of courtship and marriage celebrations.

We have evolved dancing to other ramifications, and we cannot say anyone of them is bad. The Internationals disapprove of dancing with other types of dancers because they may pick up bad habits. And they have good reason because they are in a true discipline and they will be judged accordingly. Whereas we dance anyway we like just as long as we enjoy moving to our favorite music.

Slow Down

Seems to be slowing down a little in this sector, but down town is jumping. Even the Night Clubs are doing good and can afford to be particular. I have heard there is some action on the North Shore but nothing definite.

Wahiawa Ballroom Dance Club is sure to have many people from the North Shore attending their Anniversary Dance at the Halemano Plantation. And I am sure there a lot dancers in the Central Valley. We don't get much news from the Dot's in Wahiawa or Just Tacos in Mililani. So we must be patient.

The hits are still slowing going up even though we lost most of the scam spam robot hits. So a photo in this blog can be compared very favorably with one in Facebook. (They get 250 million photos a day.) Your photo in here will be seen by your fellow dancers. 30 average hits per day is 900 per month. Send them in along with a little info and we can share with the growing readership.

Of course we are going to do our best to groom Waianae as the next excellent location of very good group of American Style Social Dancers. The Line Dancers, like every where else are a little publicity shy. So we have to wait until the next group that is not so private. Waianae District Park already has the most beautiful dance floor in the West, just waiting for the recreational dancers on this Coast. With a Good Night Club in the new Lualualei Industrial Park, the dancers on this Coast will be a little closer to Paradise.

Pub's Side Note: Fortunately, I am meeting more people that have good speakers on their computers. With some good speakers you can play music that may sound better than your high class stereos. Or a good set of Earphones. I can give them some of my music.

It couldn't happen again!

Design Flaws Cited in Deadly Train Crash in China

BEIJING — Chinese investigators delivered a long-awaited report on Wednesday on the deadly July 23 high-speed train crash in the eastern coastal city of Wenzhou, citing a string of blunders, including serious design flaws in crucial signaling equipment. Workers cleared the wreckage after a train accident in Wenzhou that killed 40 people and injured 191.

"Anyone who doesn't take truth seriously in small matters
cannot be trusted in large ones either."

Two former top officials of the Railway Ministry — who had been removed from their posts months before the crash over alleged corruption — were singled out for blame. It was a serious setback to China’s hopes to turn high-speed rail into a symbol of the nation’s technological and industrial progress, and led to an online wave of public outrage that died down only after government authorities muzzled the domestic media.

The crash investigators found sloppy development of the signaling equipment, bidding irregularities in the contract to provide it and lapses by safety inspectors who were supposed to ensure its quality. When lightning struck the Wenzhou line, the wrong signals appeared, sending one high-speed train smashing into the rear end of another on a viaduct.

Investigators put the bulk of the responsibility on the former railway minister, Liu Zhijun, and the Railway Ministry’s deputy chief engineer, Zhang Shuguang. It had been guaranteed that it couldn't happen again. Before Mr. Liu’s arrest on corruption charges in February, he led the endeavor to build nearly 5,000 miles of high-speed rail in seven years, one of China’s most dramatically ambitious initiatives.

Fortunately the Present Rail Party guarantees that it cannot happen on Oahu. Would fall on a lot of people. And fortunately too is that China is finding other means of avoiding long distance commutes.

A beautiful Industrial Park in China. The residents can get home in 20 minutes. Thousands of automobiles missing from the highways to and from town. Thousands missing from the horrible downtown traffic. Maybe the Chinese are on to something?

But in Honolulu? How much will the minimum wage be for the workers in the construction of the Rail Disaster in Honolulu? Even the rich would be surprised. ($50/hour?) Property Taxes will double, but most of us already know, It's not for the people, it's for the dough, Moe. Rapid Transit? Would be a laugh if it wasn't such a serious "Lie."

Dance Character

From Instep Magazine, 2005:

One of the key parts in dancing involves appropriately applying the character of the dance and it helps if you can interpret it from the music. There is the term "rise and fall" in Waltz in which there is a difference from Fox Trot even using the same figures. You can exaggerate but it is not necessary, you don't want to turn it into a Polka. Applying the appropriate technique to capture the character of each dance rather than blindly trying a "one size fits all" approach, is one of the most joyful aspects of dancing.

Finally there is the technique associated with each figure - the "heels and toes," amount of turn, sway, etc. However, what is overlooked is that they are actually descriptions of what the finish product should look like mostly in competition dancing. It in not a prescription for how to achieve it. Reading dance books may help but nothing will do it like the dance floor with some skilful help.

Whether you are a recreational or competition dancer, dancing is about enjoying yourself. Dance technique is not meant to take away from your enjoyment, its purpose is to enhance it! The more you understand about the different categories of technique, the more enjoyable dancing will be to you, and the more enjoyable you will be to dance with.

The Latest Studies

Getting some good stuff from the Internet. And the facts seem to be there. In Latin dancing there has been lotsa sex. In American Style, there has been some and the International has been sterile except in the ladies Latin costumes. Initial analyses showed that movement variables were significantly and positively correlated with perceived dance quality. Unlike the Professional set ups of today.

"Some days you just have to create your own sunshine."

Linear regression subsequently has revealed that three movement measures were key predictors of dance quality; these were variability and amplitude of movements of the neck and trunk, and speed of movements of the "right" knee. They have identified specific movements within men’s dance that influence women’s  perceptions of dancing ability.

Darwin found that much emphasis has been placed on conspicuous male secondary sexual ornaments and associations between such ornaments and female mate preference. Some of which exist to this day. They strongly suggest that such movements in dancing may form honest signals of male quality in terms of health, vigor or strength - though this remains to be confirmed.

"An exhibition dancer is an artist who uses the body as the canvas
and the music as the colors."

Whatever, our search seems to be leading us to the right place. And I am surprised that so many of our American Style dance teachers already understand all this. The immediate necessity is to get the Guest Authors on this blog to make it the first real Independent blog in the Pacific. They would run the hits up through the ceiling.

"In Hawaii, dance blogs are enabling hundreds of dancers to express their opinions with reduced political risk simply because of the sheer number of like-minded opinions online. Facing these independent voices, the old clique machine starts to crumble."

Average Dancer

By Leslie Matsumoto, Foster Village

I have long believed that the average dancer is the one that has the most fun in the extras benefits, such as socializing with friends, drinking and dining in a dance party, and going to a night club in groups. And fortunately average is not real high at most clubs. So if you are not going to look down on anyone and many are not going to look down at you, that can be comfortable.

“We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful
about what we pretend to be.”

With a good basic of line dancing, it is relatively easy to get accustomed to the music that is used at most social dance occasions. The movements to the music will come easy in the beginning part and as soon as they get too fancy, you can switch over into partner dancing.

Getting to average is not out of reach for anybody who stays in the game and attends socials and even a night club or two regularly. In some scenes a year or two will be required. Try to make it fun thing, enjoy every step of the way, the trip of learning does not have to be chore.

"Somewhere Over The Rainbow" by Bruddah Iz

Many are the ones that can learn just by watching. Some watch clips on the web to learn  the simple movements and can even purchase some DVDs. It’s easy to miss details. Of the guys who do take group classes, the majority take once or twice a week for a few months before cutting back. For some reason, the dropout rates of group classes are amazingly high after the first four to six months.

If you make a concentrated effort, it’s easy to learn faster than average. In addition, most guys level off after a few months, so just staying in the learning game beyond the first six to twelve months can make you really stand out.

The Looming Rail Disaster

From Hawaii Free Press:

"She came to the meeting because she wanted to speak out about an issue she was having with where she lived. Her and fellow tenants live in an affordable housing complex and were being subjected to a huge increase in rent because the units were sold by the City and County to a mainland developer."

"I am a firm believer in the people. If given the truth, they can be depended upon
to meet any national crisis. The great point is to bring them the real facts."
Abraham Lincoln

The money is needed to pay for the Rail Disaster. The Present Rail Party elected them and now they gotta come across, that is their version of the Golden Rule, "He who has the gold makes the rules." Happening all over the Island. But the Present Rail Party rules and they are out to make the Big Bucks in Profits. The City and County does not have any choice in the matter. The federal millions for the Rail Calamity is running out already. (That was easy money.)

The Articulated bus. Enough of them and we could have solved the problem.
Every bus driver out there knows this. But they are paying millions and
millions of dollars to those that do not know.

Now, everybody has got to pay. You have seen the prices going up. Property taxes will double. Even the neighbor islands, only they don't know about it yet. There are Millions and Millions of dollars in profits to be made from the Rail Crisis. Latest estimates are total cost of the Rail Mess at ten billion dollars. And few realize that the Rail Catastrophe is not going to do anyone else any good.

The beautiful Waipio Industrial Park built over the protests of the Present Rail Party.
The residents that live and work here worship the ground. They really live in
Paradise. They can get home in 20 minutes.

"Rapid Transit" is a well known joke on the Mainland. Check them out and you will see. Right this very minute, Alapai Transit center, #93 bus going to Makaha, leaving at 3:00 pm. I will get home in Nanakuli before 4:00 pm. The "Rapid Transit", Ha! You will be lucky to get to and through the station and on the train in an hour. Somebody got conned - royally. And now the Present Rail Party is set to take over the State. Hey, these mainlanders all say the same thing, "These local yokels can be taken."

People resent being controlled. Not benevolent control, but da odder kine. It happens in all our private social clubs. So my own plan is evolving that each blog will attain its independence from me. Oahu West will eventually be on its own, beholden to no one but its readers. This is going to take some doing.

Music is the wine which inspires one to new generative processes, and I am Bacchus who presses out this glorious
wine for mankind and makes them spiritually drunken.
~Ludwig van Beethoven

So we have three categories of people that will have some control of information for the reader/dancers of this Blog:

The Information Contributors: They can contribute all the small items that are overlooked by the big shots and that are pertinent to the dancers that were there for whatever the occasion. That is the meat and potatoes of social media that we need so desperately.

They must be e-mailed to the blog. If they wish to contribute a bigger item, why not? How about a few photos too? Fine, for the ones we are seeking, five or more people. They can do an awful lot to establish this blog as Social Media.

"It's Now Or Never" by Elvis Presley

The Guest Authors: When they are ready, these will come from the Information Contributors. If they can contribute on a regular basis they can very easily get to be Guest Author and the more the merrier. They will be invited into Blogger and from there that can accept or not. Then they can get in whenever they wish, write what they want and get out again and it will appear on the blog. Their own private blog within a blog.

The Administrators: They really don't have much to do but there should be at least two to keep the blog going if something should happen to one of them. However they can do a lot of damage if they wish. So please be careful.

Valley Action

You don't really need to be the best dancer in the room to have a great time! If you want to maximize your social dancing fun, you simply need to become "average" in your area and take your time in getting there. Try to enjoy the journey all the way. You do not need to be the outstanding super star, just part of the dance crowd is fine. The rest of the fun is dining, drinking and socializing with friends, just being part of the fun group.

"Your present circumstances don't determine where you can go;
they merely determine where you start."

Many beginners walk into night clubs and quickly get discouraged when seeing some of the leads with years of experience. It seems like they are having all the fun, and many believe you have to be a near pro to have a great time. During beginners hell, (for some) -- that point where you can't remember much beyond the basic steps -- it seems like you need to earn some status to get the great dances. Through the new guy eyes it looks like such a daunting task.

Not so! Just ask around with your friends and most moves are very basic and the main thing is the music. Why do you think the oldies and goodies are in such favor? Da Moosic! And you just want to move to that music. This is for ordinary run of the mill social recreational dancing. Competition and Exhibition dancing are quite a different story. And of course, some of the night club action is getting just a little too Rootzi-Tootzi.

and not everything that can be counted counts."

The Internet

Pub's Note on the Internet: Most of us, if we aren’t just now crawling out of our caves for the first time, understand that if a Nigerian big shot needs your help to move a large sum of money out of the country, it is a scam. And they are coming out with new ones everyday.

"Grief can take care of itself, but to get the full value of joy,
you must have somebody to share it with."

We know not to trust people who ask for our social security numbers or tax IDs, we know not to give out our banking information and we know not to download, buy or even look at suspicious things we get in email. If it says free, be specially careful.

The Internet has made us all a bit more wary of being scammed but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t a few cons out there taking in otherwise bright intelligent people. When presented with any deal, stop for a minute and try to figure out what the other side gets out of it.

"The House Of The Rising Sun" by The Animals

If you think about the deals you are offered, your odds of getting suckered goes down drastically. In the end, the reason people get taken in by scams isn’t because they are stupid or foolish, but because they didn’t think for one crucial moment and made a bad decision. That can happen to any of us and that is why we have to always be on our guard.

When it comes to deals that are too good to be true, they almost always are. And some Credit Card companies are in the deal too. Be very careful. Of course, this also means that some people don't trust our blogosphere. "You are doing this for free?" Yes, I know, it cannot be true. Be careful, just ask around and you will find out, and you will come to your own delusions.

Blog Update

The first dozen days of March have been very revealing in my data analysis, with just about everyone faintly aware that there are many dance blogs now. Town Dancer is still head and shoulders above any other and definitely due to the Guest Authors. So it is leading the way for all our blogosphere.

'The readers of these blogs continue to be the most
informed dancers in the Pacific."

Blogging Hawaii, Oahu West and Kapolei Social Dance are the three scrambling for second place. They alternate back and forth and the difference will not come about until one of them gets the Guest Author. Fortunately they have all been picked up by the search engines and that helps. I have also included them prominently in the Micros.

"I Can Dream, Can't I?" by the Andrews Sisters.

So it was becoming quite apparent that Town Dancer would be the one to be first in getting independence.  However the additional Guest Authors have not been there. With two more, I could phase myself out and they would have a blog that no one in the entire Pacific Basin could match.

Meanwhile I could be having a ball with plenty of time to polish the rest of the enchilada. Fortunately the feedback is almost immediate in the hits and it seems as though Blogger has found out how to eliminate scam spam robot hits from the counters. From there, I have to get around more making more contacts.

"A wise man can appear ridiculous in the company of fools."

The "Good People" have surfaced with many problems for many months. I tried to make it simple and not too specific but I finally had to skip it and this year I have waited to get feedback from the reader/dancers. I assure you they know what they are talking about and they will let me know.

Paso Doble? Fogadaboudit! When was the last time you and your partner dropped into some night club for a little Paso Doble?

Apparently others know more about it but not me. I may try it again in Oahu West blog. I think it would be the perfect place to test a gimmick like this for the benefit of all the reader/dancers. Really very simple and it should be easy. I pick the first good ones, (my opinion) and they in turn pick the next ones. Should be simple enough. Every month we get a new one and it will be someone else's opinion. This will be our social media.

That should be simple enough and hopefully there will be a minimum of interference from the "Big Wheels." The aim should always be for the benefit of the reader/dancers. We seem to be getting more feedback from the people and they are the ones that count.

Mark and Teressa

By popular demand. Not really but I got a few suggestions and I figured, why not?

My granddaughter will no longer have her last name as Martel, (sniffle)
but time marches on and we must accept and wish them happiness.

"Sh-boom, Life could be a Dream" by the Crew Cuts

Learning to dance our kind of social dance changes your life. Dancing teaches substance that will last a lifetime. Then every date, every party, every time you hear music, it will be a different experience than before. Recreational dancing is the ultimate icebreaker, the ultimate social skill. We are so fortunate that we are gradually defining our type of dance.

And yes we will begin charging the clients from April 1st. Anybody that makes over a million dollars a day, gotta pay. Many of you will not be trouble until later on this year, I guess.

"Little Things Mean A Lot" by Kitty Kallen

Pub's Side Note: Fortunately, I am meeting more people that have good speakers on their computers. With some good speakers you can play music that may sound better than your high class stereos.
Or a good set of Earphones. I can give you some of my music.

The next dance to look forward to is on

Thanks to Maile and Art, we got a picture of some fine people, many of who I remember well. Glad to see Felipe back,
looks like he is in good shape.

Not Much

Perhaps some day this fragile and troubled world in which we all must exist together will truly be a better and a more caring place in which to enjoy our dancing and enable all of us to live the good life.

The Industrial Park that they tried to block. Now, there are 400 cars missing from

Very Nice Progressing.

We polish everyday, and hope to get another Two Center and perhaps a Guest Author. This blog now definitely in fourth place. Town Dancer in front, naturally, Dance Blogs now in second place, Blogging Hawaii, third and Oahu West in a solid fourth. The addition of a Two Center or Guest Author will definitely make a difference for any one of these blogs.

"The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it,
ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is."

Many people live pretty close to Paradise, and work and play on the outskirts of Honolulu. The big city is nice to visit but you don't want to spend half your life commuting. I coulda been home in 20 minutes is a goal for many people. And don't knock the minimum wage. The minimum wage is worth ten times more in Waianae, the North Shore or Windward than in Honolulu. This fact has been covered up by the Present Rail Party and we all know why. Da Big Buck$ in profits. Millions and Millions of dollars.

"Destiny is not a matter of chance, it is a matter of choice."

A small industrial park like the one planned near Mililani could
have hundreds of cars missing on the freeways to and from Honolulu, and hundreds of cars missing from Honolulu traffic. But for the Present Rail Party, it's the bread, Fred.

New Group Is Stabilzing

We have good dancers that are not too interested in exhibitions dances. Folk dances fine, but not in what had been considered "Ballroom Dancing. But in the last couple of decades there has been a very solid group of good dancers interested in the Spectator Division. I believe everyone should do as the please as long as they don't hurt someone.

If we can get a few Two Centers and get a couple more converted Guest Authors, then the hits on this blog will go through the roof, and I can resign and leave them on their own. Easy. I guarantee they will run the hits where no others can reach them in the Pacific. And I will have my hands full with the blogs that remain. It is there for those that can see.

But we have our own good things on this Island too.
How about Wahiawa Ballroom Dance Club?
This club dates back a long ways.
